I totally agree with this campaign as I was a migrant and not an asylum seeker and the treatment we received upon arriving in this country was appalling according to my parents................so what has changed?  We need to stand up for those that appear to have no rights what so ever upon this Earth!
Transparency is the key word to the Government and the biggest one of all Integrity!

 Changing the Tide welcomes Akmal!
Since last we wrote popular stand-up comedian, actor and humanitarian Akmal Saleh, has joined Changing the Tide in campaigning for a more humane and lawful asylum seeker policy for Australia. As an Egyptian-Australian, Akmal has a lived experience of migration and understands and defends the right of those fleeing persecution to seek protection under International Law. Click on the link to watch Akmal speaking at Darwin’s March in March about his fears for the democracy of Australia and how this is impacting on the human right to seek asylum. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tk5pCVUmYiQ
Changing the Tide is committed to continuing its campaign calling on the UN to exercise its responsibility to intervene when Government’s fail in their obligations; and to unite with others in public protests of resistance such as the asylum and refugee rallies which are happening around the country this weekend. We believe it will be this mix of external and internal pressure that will ultimately lead to policy change.
In light of the Government’s refusal to provide information on the Manus Island investigation, Villawood relocations, Cambodian resettlement negotiations, together with the blocking of the UN visit to Nauru RPC; we urge you to spread the word about the Campaign and to take part in your local march this weekend. The Government needs to be reminded that they are accountable to the Australian people and the UN needs to see there is growing civil opposition to their actions.
